Why I started a Blog

I started this blog to promote and blog about my business Khameleonic Kreations.  Khameleonic Kreations is a company that I started so that I could make bath products for my family that were safe and natural.  My children all had sensitive skin that was easily irritated by most products.  I was not satisfied with the mass-produced products that were on the market that not only contained ingredients that I could not even pronounce, but also many times they contained chemicals that were downright dangerous. So I decided to try my hand at making it myself so I could control what was going into it, and narrow down what was causing my family’s skin problems.  After many many months of researching, reading, and experimenting I came up with what I thought was a pretty good product that not only smelled pretty nice but it did not leave my family’s skin so dry and it cleaned well too.  And guess what?! No more skin problems.  I wish I had known this years ago when I had my first child and I would have saved myself so much time, money, and heartache.
I started out giving away what my family didn’t use and the requests started coming in, and a business was born.  My goal is to not only offer people a high-quality product but to also educate them and share what I have learned along the way.   We put a lot of thought into what we feed our families but not as much about what we put on our bodies. What we put on our bodies also goes into our bodies! Therefore we should give just as much attention to what we are exposing our skin to as to what we are putting into our bodies.

One of the main products that I make is handmade soaps.  They are made in small batches by hand.  There are many good reasons to use handmade soap instead of the sometimes cheaper mass-produced soap.  With handmade soap, you know exactly what you’re putting on your skin.  Handmade soap is made without a lot of the harsh toxic chemicals that mass produced soap very often contain. Most of the soaps that I make are scented with 100% therapeutic grade Essential Oils. Essential Oils not only smell great but they also have many therapeutic qualities and can help adjust your mood.

Formaldehyde is a chemical that is used in mass-produced soap as well as many other beauty products including baby shampoo!  So what exactly is Formaldehyde?  Formaldehyde is a colorless gas with a pungent odor that is used as a disinfectant, a preservative and a precursor for various resins in construction products.  It is highly toxic and used All OVER THE WORLD. And if that’s not enough to convince you about the dangers of this chemical maybe this will; It has been labeled as a known human carcinogen by the U.S. National Toxicology Program.    Even at very low levels, some people will experience reactions to formaldehyde including watery eyes, nausea, difficulty breathing, burning in the eyes and throat, coughing, and rashes. My handmade soaps are formaldehyde free and made in the USA.

Products sold in the United States, Canada, China, Indonesia, and Australia contain a chemical called quaternium-15 which is a chemical preservative that kills bacteria by releasing formaldehyde.  Interestingly enough some of the same products that are sold in the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, and Japan contain non-formaldehyde preservatives. Since when did the US and China become on equal footing as far as safety and quality are concerned. Just because handmade soap doesn’t contain all the harsh chemicals and fragrances does not mean that it has to be boring.  In fact, it is the complete opposite!  I mentioned earlier that my soaps are scented with essential oils.

So what are Essential Oils? Essential Oils are concentrated botanical oils that retain properties of the plants from which they are extracted.  Essential oils such as eucalyptus, lavender, and rosemary are antimicrobial and antibacterial and can be excellent for freshening up around the house.  Tea tree essential oil, in addition, banishing bacteria and microbes is anti-fungal and anti-viral.  Some calming essential oils are chamomile, juniper, lavender, lemon balm, lemongrass, and ylang-ylang.  Some uplifting ones are eucalyptus, grapefruit, lime, peppermint, and vetiver.
